US Presidential Election

Well it’s all over. After months of relentless campaigning across the states, you know the 9 of them that actually mattered. The winner gets rewarded by a nice four year rest in that big fancy white house.  America has today made its choice between two spectacular candidates. One a disinterested guy who has a lot of stuff to say but spends so much time saying it nothing actually gets done. The other a guy who wears sacred underwear and believes Jesus vacationed in Florida. Most would agree the debates were a major part of this election, this is mainly due to the fact that Obama didn’t actually show up to the first, he just send a semi life like robot in his place as he had “cooler stuff to do.”  The other two debates mainly consisted of the two candidates generally agreeing on the fact that the other guy was lying and it was more interesting to go off on a tangent than answer any questions put to them. As mentioned before the election is ultimately decided by only a handful of voters in a handful of states. This raises the question of why anyone else bothers to vote. Why not just stop everyone from voting except for swing voters in swing states, surely this would save everyone time and money. In the end Obama came out on top with a massive lead in Electoral College votes 303 against 206. However he only managed a 2.5% margin in the popular vote. In real terms this means that over 57 million Americans voted against Obama and 59 million voted for him. That’s hardly a mandate to the run the country, when 57 million people are against thing you know the country doesn’t have your back. However Obama has four more years to try and live up the hype and expectation that was built up way back in 2008. In the mean time the GOP have to realise that their voters are mainly old and white and will soon die out. Its time they started embracing a different demographic if they ever want to get the presidency back. Either way long live the king, let’s hope the next four years are better than the previous four.
